What You Should Know About 2022 National Television Awards

Well, it’s back and bigger than ever! The National Television Awards has continued to captivate UK audiences and is actually the only awards ceremony that is 100% chosen by the public by a massive nationwide poll. So, let’s break down what you need to know about this year’s NTAs and which of our celebs are nominated!

The National Television Awards Ceremony

Originally, the National Television Awards (NTAs) would be taking place on Thursday the 15th of September. However, out of respect for Her Majesty’s passing on the 8th, this time has been pushed back to the 13th of October at 7.30 pm on ITV. To reflect the period of national mourning, viewer voting has also been paused. This will resume on Tuesday 20th September at 9 am and remain open until the day of the ceremony.

Typically, the awards ceremony is hosted at London’s O2. But, this year, they are going bigger than ever! Joel Dommett, returning for a second year, will host the 2022 NTAs at the OVO Arena Wembley.

More than any other UK awards ceremony, the National Television Awards really do look after their own! In the past, around 150 limos have been dispatched to fetch the stars of the awards ceremony to the O2. And, now at Wembley, this is only set to increase.

Opening this year’s awards ceremony is Robbie Williams, performing a compilation of his greatest hits. With big shows such as Netflix’s Bridgerton and After Life, up against the UK shows Peaky Blinders and Derry Girls. This year’s NTAs are surely one to not miss!

Emmerdale

Surprise, surprise, but in the UK’s soap game, there are three main contenders. Whilst Coronation Street and EastEnders have had their fair share of nominations and wins at the National Television Awards, we’re fully supporting Emmerdale this year!

And why is that? Well, we would be a bad CelebAgents management not supporting our own! Since 2019, our Natalie Ann Jamieson has taken over the role of Amy Wyatt and made it her own. From her entrance on Emmerdale farm, Natalie has been involved in emotional story arcs, such as Amy fighting to see her son and her role in the death of Frank Clayton. So, it’s no wonder that her acting chops have contributed to the soap’s 27th nomination for Serial Drama (every year since the NTAs conception).

The last time the soap won Serial Drama was in 2020. Up against the likes of the final episode of Neighbours, we’re rooting for Natalie and the rest of the Emmerdale cast!

The Chase

Since its inception in 2009, The Chase has been a popular daytime quiz, attracting more than 2 million viewers each year. So, it should come as no surprise that at this year’s National Television Awards, The Chase has been nominated for Best Daytime Programme for the 8th time.

At CelebAgents, we are honoured not to just represent one chaser, but three! That’s half of the team! And our clients are the three chasers that have served the longest on the panel.

Mark Labbett, better known as “The Beast”, has been on The Chase since 2009. This includes all of its spinoffs, including The Chase USA, where he occasionally is a guest chaser. Before joining The Chase in 2009 along with the Beast, Shaun Wallace, better known as “The Dark Destroyer”, was a Barrister and had appeared on quiz shows such as Are You an Egghead?, The Weakest Link and Mastermind, winning the latter. The first female chaser to join the show, Anne Hegerty, better known as “The Governess”, has also appeared on various quiz shows and 2018’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, which she came in 7th place.

Beat the Chasers

But, it’s not just The Chase that has been nominated this year. Our chasers have double the chance! Last year, the spinoff Beat the Chasers was nominated for the first time and won in the Best Quiz Gameshow category. Let’s hope Mark, Shaun, Anne and the rest of The Chase cast take home their well-deserved trophies at this year’s National Television Awards!
