Mike Nolan is one of the original members of the iconic British pop group Bucks Fizz, who became an international sensation after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with the unforgettable hit “Making Your Mind Up.” The group went on to define the sound of the 1980s with their catchy melodies, colourful image and energetic performances.

With Mike as one of its lead vocalists, Bucks Fizz became one of the decade’s most successful pop acts, achieving multiple Top 10 singles and selling millions of records worldwide. Their chart-topping hits — including “The Land of Make Believe,” “My Camera Never Lies,” “Piece of the Action,” “Run for Your Life,” “If You Can’t Stand the Heat,” and “Now Those Days Are Gone” — established the band as a household name across the UK and Europe. Their trademark harmonies, choreographed routines and unforgettable onstage chemistry made Bucks Fizz one of the most recognisable and best-loved pop groups of their generation.

However, in December 1984, tragedy struck when the band’s tour coach crashed following a concert in Newcastle. Mike suffered life-threatening head injuries and was left in a coma for several days. His recovery was slow and uncertain, and for a time doctors feared he might never perform again. Against all odds, Mike fought back, regaining his speech, balance and ability to perform — a recovery that has since been described as nothing short of miraculous.

Although the accident left him with short-term memory loss and impaired vision, Mike has never allowed those challenges to define him. Instead, they have become part of his remarkable story — one of determination, resilience, and his enduring love for music.

Over the years, Mike has continued to perform live across the UK and abroad, both as a solo artist and with various incarnations of Bucks Fizz. His powerful vocals and down-to-earth charm have earned him a loyal fan base that spans generations. In 2013, he released his debut solo album, In My Life, featuring a collection of songs that showcase his versatility and emotional depth as a singer. The album received warm praise from fans and critics alike for its sincerity and heartfelt delivery. He went on to release another album a few years later “Time On My Side” which also received good reviews from Fans and critics.

Mike has also been a passionate supporter of charitable causes, particularly those linked to head injury awareness and rehabilitation, drawing on his own life experience to inspire others facing adversity. His willingness to speak openly about the challenges he has faced has made him a source of strength and encouragement to many.

Now focusing on his solo work and live performances, Mike remains deeply connected to the music that made him a household name. While no longer performing with Bucks Fizz, he continues to celebrate the legacy of the band that launched his career and to entertain audiences who have followed his journey for more than four decades.
