Chantal Leverton, who won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music was brought up in north London, the daughter of a lawyer, she was educated at King Alfred’s, a progressive independent school in Hampstead. She started the violin aged 6 and took music seriously – at the age of 12 she started attending the junior department of Trinity College of Music.

When she was 16, a teacher encouraged her to switch to the viola and it was the following year that the importance of music hit her.

She auditioned and got into the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain aged 17 and spent two years with the orchestra, making appearances at the Barbican Centre and the Royal Festival Hall, before her scholarship to the Royal Academy.

During her 2nd year at the Royal Academy she was asked to audition for a classical crossover band called Wild. She became a member of the group who were then signed by EMI records.

A couple of years later Chantal was hired to join a string quartet to back the boy band McFly on their UK tour. The other members were Izzy, Tas and Victoria. The foursome got on so well that when the tour was over they decided to stick together and Escala was born.

Escala auditioned to appear on the ITV show “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2008 and ended up in the final of the show.

Simon Cowell signed them to his record label Syco, where they then began creating their debut classical crossover album produced by Sir Trevor horn. Escala also played Strings on Pink Floyd’s track “Louder Than Words” from their album “The Endless River” in 2014.

Chantal is now married and has two daughters aged 8 and 6. She has begun to stepping out into the modelling world and is in the beginning stages of creating her own women’s fashion wear line. She enjoys all things creative, especially fashion, interiors, music, and fitness.
