Carolyn Robb is one of the most distinguished British chefs of her generation, best known for her remarkable tenure as personal chef to Prince Charles and Princess Diana and their sons, Princes William and Harry.
Over more than a decade in royal service, she earned a reputation not only for exceptional culinary skill but also for grace and composure in one of the most demanding kitchens in the world.
Born and raised in South Africa, Carolyn developed her love of food through family cooking and shared meals, inspiring her to pursue a professional culinary career. After gaining early hospitality experience in Switzerland, she undertook formal training in the UK, earning a diploma in Cordon Bleu Cookery with distinction from the renowned Tante Marie School of Cookery in Surrey.
In 1987, Carolyn began her career within the British Royal Household as chef to The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester at Kensington Palace. Two years later, she was appointed personal chef to Prince Charles and Princess Diana, becoming both the youngest and first female chef to hold the role, a significant achievement in a profession then largely dominated by men.
During her thirteen years serving the Royal Household, Carolyn was responsible for planning and preparing daily family meals, state dining menus and catering on official tours. Working closely with Prince Charles also shaped her culinary philosophy, as she embraced his strong commitment to organic, sustainable and seasonal produce, principles that continue to influence her cooking today.
Following her royal career, Carolyn expanded internationally, taking on leadership and consultancy roles within Dubai’s hospitality scene before establishing her own brand, offering bespoke culinary consultancy, training and private dining services. She is also the author of acclaimed cookbooks that bring elegant yet accessible recipes, from refined entertaining to relaxed home cooking, to a global audience.
In addition to her culinary credentials, Carolyn is a qualified fitness instructor, a discipline that naturally informs her approach to food, simple, seasonal, sustainable and health-focused cooking that balances enjoyment with wellbeing.
Carolyn’s journey from South African childhood kitchens to the heart of Kensington Palace remains an inspiring story of talent, dedication, and culinary excellence, and she continues to captivate food lovers and professionals alike with her rich experiences, warm storytelling, and world-class expertise.
