A Magical Weekend in Cornwall
I had the most wonderful time in Cornwall last weekend, all thanks to the delightful Shane Solomon – Cornwall Ambassador from Corker Media Productions, and the charismatic Lewis Nicholls – presenter for Cornwall’s Life Stories.
Our adventure began with a short but sweet flight from Gatwick to Newquay with Eastern Airways. The journey, though brief at just one hour, was made memorable by the exceptional service from their cabin crew, ground staff, and pilots. Their warm hospitality set the perfect tone for the trip ahead.
We stayed in the heart of Mevagissey, a charming fishing village with a picture-perfect harbour. The village exudes a quaint charm, and our three-night stay there was nothing short of amazing.
A Warm Welcome in Mevagissey
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine friendliness everywhere we went. Our first night was spent dining at Mevagissi Spice, a cosy restaurant just a short stroll from our accommodation. The food was delicious, and the staff’s friendliness made the experience even better.
Mornings were a treat at The Harbour Tavern, owned by the lovely Lindsay & Alan. In less than two years, they’ve transformed this venue into a warm and welcoming haven. Their pride in what they’ve created shines through in every detail, and their staff feel more like family. The Harbour Tavern isn’t just a place for great breakfasts – they host events almost every evening, especially during the summer. We were lucky enough to enjoy a lively performance by a shanty band, which was great fun and added to the overall charm of our stay.
Where to Stay and Dine in Mevagissey
If you’re planning a visit, consider staying at Lindsay & Alan’s two-bedroom apartment above The Harbour Tavern overlooking the stunning harbour, it’s the perfect spot for both relaxation and entertainment. With delicious meals just downstairs, you won’t need to go far for food or fun. The apartment is available through Interhome, who also managed our accommodation. Their team was incredibly accommodating, making sure every detail of our stay was perfect.
We stayed in a nearly-new one-bedroom apartment, which was spotless and thoughtfully equipped with everything we could possibly need. It even had two bathrooms – one with a shower and the other with a bath – offering the best of both worlds.
One of our evening meals was taken at the The long Store A lovely restaurant where the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Arrive a little earlier and have a drink in the bar before going up to your table for a full evening’s experience.
Exploring the Lost Gardens of Heligan
A visit to Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without exploring the Lost Gardens of Heligan. This vast, enchanting garden has so much to offer that it’s recommended to set aside around four hours if you want to see it all. We spent most of our time wandering through the jungle area, which was an exhilarating experience with plenty of walking and lots of fun.
A Dog-Friendly Paradise
One of the most delightful surprises of our trip was discovering how dog-friendly this part of Cornwall is. It seemed like everywhere we went, dogs were welcomed with open arms. We didn’t encounter a single place that didn’t warmly welcome our four-legged friends.
