Shaun Wallace 

Shaun Wallace is one of Britain’s most recognisable television personalities, best known to millions as ‘The Dark Destroyer’ on ITV’s hugely successful quiz show The Chase.

A member of the original line-up of Chasers since the programme launched in 2009, Shaun has become a firm favourite with audiences for his formidable general knowledge, competitive spirit, quick wit and unmistakable warmth. Behind the famous nickname, however, lies an extraordinary career spanning television, law, education and quizzing.

Shaun was called to the Bar in 1984 and completed his pupillage in 1986, going on to establish a distinguished career as a criminal barrister and senior criminal defence advocate. Over several decades he has worked across a broad range of serious criminal cases, combining his television commitments with his continuing passion for the law.

His reputation as one of Britain’s most accomplished quizzers was firmly established in 2004 when he won BBC’s Mastermind, with FA Cup Finals as his specialist subject. He later reached the final of Are You an Egghead? and in 2012 was ranked 286th in the World Quizzing Championships.

Since joining The Chase, Shaun’s television career has taken him around the world. Alongside the main series, he has appeared on Beat The Chasers and has also taken his role as a Chaser internationally, including appearing on The Chase Australia. His unique combination of intellect, humour and competitive determination has made him one of the most enduring and popular figures in British quiz television.

Shaun is also an accomplished author and public speaker. His autobiography, Chasing the Dream, tells the remarkable story of his journey from growing up in London and pursuing his childhood ambition of becoming a barrister to winning Mastermind and becoming a household name. His story is one of determination, resilience and refusing to allow setbacks to define what is possible.

Education remains particularly important to Shaun. He regularly visits schools, colleges, universities and community organisations, speaking to young people about the law, education, aspiration and the importance of perseverance. He has also lectured in areas including environmental law, health and safety law and road transport law and regulations, using his professional experience to encourage others to develop their knowledge and fulfil their potential. His contribution to education and public life has also been recognised by London Metropolitan University.

Away from television and the courtroom, Shaun has a lifelong passion for football, travel, music and quizzing and is a devoted Chelsea supporter.
